User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:63.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/63.0
Steps to reproduce:
Bug #502741 is an example of a serious bug which is unonfirmed and therefore not fixed since more than 10 years.
Actual results:
Many users have confirmed it, but have no way to change its status.
Therefore it doesn't receive attention and gets fixed.
Expected results:
There should be a way for users to confirm a bug.

Anyone with the canconfirm privilege can mark bugs CONFIRMED. Ask in the bug to do so.

I see. Thanks for telling me. This also worked for me.
However as we can see form the discussion of the bug reporters it is not obvious for them how to get this privilege.
Could this information be added somewhere?
The bug also show Whiteboard:[wontfix?]
Do I need the editbugs privilege in order to change or add to the whiteboard?

Most of casual bug reporters don’t have to even know about these privileges, and the number of people having privileges should be limited to maintain a positive working environment. This is kinda “by design” thing.
However, given that welcoming contributors is also important for Mozilla, I agree that we could do much better by adding clear instructions for regular users, etc. to grow the community. As a UX designer for Bugzilla, I’ll create a so-called “customer journey map” next year to tackle the broader issue. (I’m also a contributor, not an employee. Well, actually an ex-employee.)

Yes.
