1511813 - Session History Limitation Doesn't Work

Firefox 63.0.3 on Windows 10 Build 1809

Step to follow:

1. Create a new profile
2. in about:config change the value to 1 of variables "browser.sessionhistory.max_entries" and "browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo"
3. go to the website ip-check.org, click to the ip adress and wait for the advanced check, in the tab history should apperar "protected"
4. open a new tab
5. redo the step 3

What Happened:

in the step 5 the website indicates that the tab history value isn't protected anymore, and then the session history limitation doesn't work anymore

Additional:

i tried to reproduce it in the same version on android and the bug doesn't appear

I can still reproduce this issue under the following OS's: Windows 10 x32, mac OS 10.13.6, Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 18. The affected builds are: 65.0a1, 64.0b14, 63.0.3. 


Additional:
This issue does not occur on the 60.3.0esr build (all OS).

Managed to narrow it down to https://hg.mozilla.org/integration/mozilla-inbound/pushloghtml?fromchange=2bbbbd37317385082b5317a5e4fb29570fe0505b&tochange=6cffa8738ca53d246a39536d18a0c19b8c602e37

so this looks like it is a regression caused by bug 1436911, moving over to Preferences.

Hi,

Do you know if this issue is still reproducible on the latest Firefox versions?
I wasn't able to reproduce it myself, and I would like to close it if it doesn't occur anymore.

I wasn't able to reproduce this, and it looks like Peter wasn't able to reproduce this 7 months ago either. I'm going to resolve this as worksforme and if we can get a repro then we can reopen it.

In my case the issue still persist

i have Firefox 102.0 in Windows 10 Pro 21H2 19044.1806 64 bit

i tried with my main profile that has few add-ons and some modifications in about:config, and it only works until you close and re-open the browser, then the limitations doesn't work anymore

then i tried to create a clean new profile, changed the values, and again it only works until you restart the browser
