Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:63.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/63.0

Steps to reproduce:

I start Firefox and navigate to any page (like mozilla.org). If there were any other tabs open, I close them with right click on this tab and "close other tabs". Now I want to quit Firefox clean and close the last tab. On next start the tab reappears.

Actual results:

As written above, the tab still exists after firefox restart.

Expected results:

When I close all tabs, the next time I start Firefox I want an empty and clean firefox.

What is your setting in options/General/Startup/[ ]Restore previous session ?

It is checked since sometimes I need to restore my session.
Flags: needinfo?(matthi)
In general, my understanding of closing UX is like this:
If I press the big red X on Firefox, I want to exit the program. Then restoring session is fine.
If I press on the last tab, I want to kill that tab. If this was the last tab, it should kill that tab anyway and close Firefox. Next time I want to start a clean Firefox.

Because this is the intention of pressing the x on that tab (or pressing Ctrl+W): do not show me this tab again. That's why I understand this as a bug.
Pressing the "x" on the last tab is like pressing the "x" on the window because closing the last tab also closes the browser.
In case you do not like that and you want only sometimes to restore your session disable the option to restore your session at startup in the options.

You can now restore your session after restart with:
>"open menu" button -> Restore previous session
or with:
>alt key/History/Restore previous session

I know, that's why I consider this as a bug from UX perspective. Closing a tab means, I want to get rid of the tab. Just think about this!

And I need to restore my sessions sometimes, that's why I need to enable this option. Yes, it's also possible, but how do I remember I had an important session? Should I put a note on my keyboard, everytime I need to restore my session?
