Steps to reproduce:

Load your Facebook wall.

Select "Live Video".

Instead of working, Facebook pops up a message that says that Live Video now requires the latest version of Google Chrome, and it refuses to let you use it in Firefox.


Actual results:

Firefox is blocked from using Live Video.


Expected results:

Live Video should have opened my webcam and allowed me to go live after granting permissions.

In fact, Live Video does work in Firefox. When I overrode my user agent for Facebook websites with an extension and told it I was using Chrome 71 on Linux, Live Video popped up and worked fine.

Worth noting this feature is Chrome only on Facebook Workplace as well.

I tested this in Firefox, spoofing the user agent string as Chrome, and was able to use the feature just fine. The feature isn't supported in Edge, Safari or Opera either.

Facebook does not plan to support other browsers than Chrome for the time being. This may change in the future.

I just tried to use FB live with FF (nightly) on Win10 and got no problems using it. So maybe FB changed their supported browsers meanwhile..

Yeah, this has been fixed on their end for a while. It's sad that Mozilla took no Web Compatibility action for over a year and a half while this was a problem and let Facebook give their users "Your browser sucks. Get Chrome!" spam if they weren't using Chrome and Windows. rolls eyes Such is life.

Just because a bug hasn't been updated for a while doesn't mean we ignored an issue. There is a lot of communication going on behind the scenes, and issues like this usually don't magically fix themselves.

Also, Ryan, this Bugzilla is a place of work, not a discussion forum. It's understandable that some issues may be more engaging than others, but comments like your are neither productive, nor really appropriate. We'd appreciate if you could reconsider your motivations before commenting again. :)

And yeah, this is working now, so I'll mark this bug as fixed.
