I'm aware that this feature was already declined for other products (bug 1404609) but I'd like to propose this for iOS again with the new(er) iPhone devices that are technically able to draw a real dark. Proposal: Firefox for iOS should include a fourth color or replace the darkest color currently with a completely dark color choice. Not only for battery saving but also because IMO it looks nicer than this grayish dark color.
Priority: -- → P3

Reading in Firefox on iOS is considerably worse than basically every other reader view, including in Safari on iOS, especially on devices with OLED displays (like iPhones X, Xs, and Xs Max). Adding—or replacing—an option to support white-on-black would be a huge improvement.

Severity: normal → S3

I would like to add higher contrast options in general. I have 2 types of screen across my daily devices: 1) OLED for smart phone, laptop, monitor 2) electronic paper for an e-reader.

The OLED devices look washed out because it’s not #000 black and its tint away from a neutral grey is more noticeable. The e-reader looks bad because the background isn’t pure #fff white and the text not being #000 as a gray reduces the contrast that makes it easier to read. It’s a little ironic that the Reader Mode is not suitable for an e-reader. My laptop I use the toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets = true with a custom userContent.css to ‘fix’ the background color, but on Android (phone & e-reader) it is not convenient to edit this config. What’s further annoying is browser.display.background_color.dark = #000000 is ignored.

This bug is listed as iOS, but I feel as though it should be broadened an as issue on all platforms.

Android Firefox still doesn't allow most add-ons to be installed which doesn't help users on that platform, many of which are using OLED panels that can benefited from #000 black. Similar can apply to users in enterprise that can't install add-ons. Reader mode could meet some expectations if it at least followed the values set in about:config.
