User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:64.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/64.0

Steps to reproduce:

Use Firefox on my backup laptop which I have not used for about 4 days.

Actual results:

The Top Sites became a mess, with all sites unpinned except for a Google one which I have never pinned ever. All my custom images were gone. All the sites were out of order. There were even some other sites I have never pinned before. What's worse, this mess got synced to all my other devices. The Top Sites. I have to manually restore all my sites to their original position and restore all the custom images.

Expected results:

The Top Sites on my laptop should pick up the records from my Firefox account. The top sites should be synced to this laptop, not the other way around.

@zhanxucong, pinned Top Sites are not synced at the moment making that part of the bug a dupe of bug 1497038.

Now, about that other part. If I understood correctly, you started up an older profile on your laptop and then, the Top Sites from your laptop were synced to all of your other devices including the initial one that had all Top Sites configured?
Is this correct?

Kind of. The laptop is the ONLY one without the configured Top Sites. So the messy profile on my laptop got synced to all other devices that were with the configured Top Sites.

Also, this didn't happen 4 days ago when I used the Firefox on this laptop to watch Iqiyi (a Chinese streaming platform). If my impression is correct, at that time the Top Sites on this laptop was not such a mess. I think the Top Sites profile on the laptop got deleted or corrupted in some way after I rebooted the device last night.
