RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 589628

People

(Reporter: HeartwoodJack, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:64.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/64.0

Steps to reproduce:

The Network of StackExchange communities (AskUbuntu, AndroidEnthusiasts etc.) all share a login (username and password), but different profiles exist on the different communities. They have different URLs that do not always include a common element (e.g. AskUbuntu.com does not follow the form *.StackExchange.com). This probably applies to some other networks of sites.

To reproduce, create a profile on a new StackExchange community and it will tell you that your email address is already registered, but not from which community. This makes knowing/finding/using the existing login non-trivial.
Additionally, change your password on one StackExchange site and other logins are not updated, leaving them outdated.

Actual results:

Updated logins from one StackExchange community leave other logins out of date. It is inconvenient and not trivial to remember rarely used StEx profiles and manually update them all.

Expected results:

There may be security concerns about doing this... but I can't work out what.

Anyway, what I'd appreciate, is a capability to link logins to all update simultaneously.

I do not wish to use the login with Gmail or Facebook options. Not sure how I feel about the log in with Launchpad option.

Component: Untriaged → Password Manager
Product: Firefox → Toolkit

I hope to work on this problem this quarter or next.
