[Context:]
When Dedicated profiles per install are going to be live, in the downgrade scenarios, we are giving only two options to the user: create new profile and quit.

However, there will be a command line argument to overwrite the above and allow the start with the downgrade of the profile.

[Steps:]

1.-user upgrades from v1 to v2
2.-user starts v2
3.-user uninstalls v2
4.-user re-installs v1
5.-user starts v1

[Actual Result:]
User is forced to Create a new profile or Quit.
Sumo page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/dedicated-profiles-firefox-installation doesn't list anything about the option to overwrite the above.

[Expected Result:]
Sumo page should list the option to overwrite the downgrade protection. (--allow-downgrade)

[Note:]
As per slack:

Hi Joni,
This is an update to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/dedicated-profiles-firefox-installation
Could you please help update this page by adding details around the fact that we'll be foring new profile creation in downgrade scenarios?

I suggest we a bullet points as follows:

  • You will not lose any personal data or customizations. Any previous profile data is saved and associated with the first Firefox installation that was opened after this change.
  • Starting with Firefox version 67, Firefox installations will have separate profiles. This will first apply to Nightly version 67, then make its way to version 67 of Developer Edition, Beta, Firefox, and ESR.
  • We will still allow users to downgrade versions although this will now require you to create a fresh new profile in order to avoid profile corruption issues (see screenshot below). Downgrade protection can be overwritten by launching Firefox through the command line with the '--allow-downgrade' parameter (link to command line parameter SUMO KB)

Thanks, Romain. We updated the article last week. Let me know if there's anything else.
