From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530 BuildID: enhancement request Just an idea - I use my laptop at home and at work. At work I use a proxy, at home I don't. Each time I change locations I have to go into proxy settings and enable and disable proxys. Furthermore, sometimes when I am at home I get on the company VPN. In this case I need proxies for some time of my browser intance but not others. It would be great if mozilla found that it could not reach a site it could automatically check to see if the site would be accessable with the proxies enabled, or if proxies are enable check if the site was available with the proxies disabled. I think this feature was attempted with IE5 but never quite worked. Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce
Perhaps add something to the "File" context menu underneath "Work Offline" like "Disable Proxy"?
We have both bugs requesting auto-failover to proxies and requesting "network profiles". Which do you really want most?
"Network profiles" would be great especially for people who use more than 2 network environments. The ideal case would allow the user to manually select a network profile to use or "auto-select network profile". Perhaps the browser could first try to connect using the last successful profile but if the connection is not successful check the remaining profiles in an order configurable by the user. So, I suppose I like both ideas. If one had to be selcted to be implemented first I would say Netork Profiles since that seems like a nice incremental step toward the ideal case described above.
Yeah. I guees you could auto-guess by the router or network address, I don't know if Necko could see this, but it would be interesting. I'm trying to do some other things right now, but I'll try to find the relevant bug numbers, you can look at them and dupe this bug away, then file RFE's for anything missing (like the auto-detect idea...)
