User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:65.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/65.0

Steps to reproduce:

Write "moz:x" in the address bar (where "x" can be any character) and press Enter key.

Actual results:

The following address is opened: https://blog.mozilla.org/opendesign/

Expected results:

The current search engine should be used to search for the text.

Component: Untriaged → Address Bar

This is by design! ;)

I would have preferred the Mozilla Manifesto over this weird blog.

But I would have really preferred the standard behavior over any other solution.

By the way, I did search the bug database for "opendesign" and got no results. "moz:" gets too many results (with no result's title containing "moz:" on first page).

The url is https://www.mozilla.org/protocol
and there is a redirect to this website

I updated the description and reopened your bug

Dave, what do you think?

Summary: When writing "moz:x" in address bar, Mozilla Open Design blog is opened → "moz:x" should redirect to the manifesto

Not really up to me. Product management maybe?

For what it's worth, I've gone back to using the search bar.

I agree the manifest is a better location for this redirect to point to.
That said, should we limit this behavior just to "moz://a" rather than to all "moz:" combinations?

So https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/manifesto/.

What do you want other combinations to redirect to? Making it do the behaviour that triggers a search is probably difficult but I could investigate more.

Also note that moz://eh does something special!

moz://eh -> lol

What do you want other combinations to redirect to?
I guess I'd expect to perform a search, just like when I type "abc:def".
