Phil, isn't this a 4.5 bug? Why is it in bugzilla?
I did't know if this bug is in code that we kept or not. Do you think we couldn't possibly have the same bug in mozilla?
well, it's possible but highly speculative and unlikely, actually. Historically, the uid validity type crashes have not been in the imap protocol code, but in the libmsg code, and that code, as you know, is all rewritten.
Summary: IMAP crash; related to UIDVALIDITY? → need test case for imap uid validity changing
Assignee: phil → huang
Perhaps we can change this bug to something like "need a test case for uid validity" and reassign to QA. Unless there's some disagreement, that's what I'd like to do.
We'll just try these steps in 5.0 against the UW server. Karen was going to test against different types of servers in the next few weeks.
You'd have to make sure that the UW server was rolling uid validity for some reason (accessing an imap mailbox with pine's pop3 client can cause this, I believe). Rolling UID Validity is an evil thing that most servers do only very rarely. The compuserve server does it for every connection.
I will try to reproduce this problem and create testcase for 5.0.
Karen - we may have a test account for the CompuServer IMAP server. I'll have to find that info though.
Craig Haft (clhaft@aol.com) may be able to give you network access to his IMAP server, especially if we use the va.netscape.com mechanism to get into AOL's internal network in Dulles.
Since I didn't get the response from Craig(clhaft@aol.com), so I tried this test scenario from the Netscape internal UW server. I set up one IMAP client/Linux for idle over than 2 hours and deleted same msg from the same mailbox on the other IMAP client/Win98... There is no crash on the IMAP client/Linux. I am not able to recreate this problem. May try AOL network later after I got response from Craig.
I am able to use the va.netscape.com mechanism to get into AOL's internal networknow now. I will retest it again......
I tried to recreate this problem with the 4.61 and 4.7 versions by following the exactly setup & steps based on Craig's description. (The idle time that I tested were: 45 minutes) But, I still cannot reproduce this problem - No Crash! And, it seemed that it was working fine for the IMAP uid validity. I am still waiting for Craig's give me more H/W & OS for clients' information for recreating this problem again. But,I will go ahead to create the test cases for IMAP in 5.0 The mapio.txt I got from today's testing is as following: mozilla IMAP stdout: URL: Loading IMAP://hpdev04.office.aol.com?select>|INBOX> Accept.
Already updated on the IMAP Test Spec of Netscape Messaging Server. (This is first draft, not the final....will keep updating for more enhancement) Will also update to reflect for the other IMAP servers' Test Specs as well.
Attached file IMAP Test Spec
In Netscape 4.7, 4.72, and Mozilla have a problem with using "courier" IMAP which is a version of IMAP that supports Qmail's Maildir structure. According to http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/BUGS.txt the problem is with Netscape's IMAP implementation. What happens is that you can get mail when you first start up the client, and you can send it. However, if you try and get mail again it will say that the server responsed with an error. Closing down the client and restarting fixes it.
karen - can this be closed? Is your test case updated?
I created another new IMAP test spec for next release. Above Test Spec was old. I need to double check again to ensure this has been covered in my new test spec and close this bug afterwards. Change QA Contact to me.
