Pre-test:

  1. Navigate to invalid URL such as "csse.edu"
  2. Note error shown: "A server with the specified hostname could not be found."

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Go to Settings -> New Tab
  2. Tap on "Add Custom URL"
  3. Type invalid URL such as "csse.edu"
  4. Save and go back to browsing
  5. Open new tab

Expected: Display and load the incorrect URL and show the error "A server with specified hostname could not be found". URL title text should show in tab and address should be in URL bar.

Actual: Page is displayed as completely blank. A URL title shows on the tab but the URL bar is empty.

While this is an edge case, it may be interesting to investigate behaviors when someones' custom new tab page is "down" (aka server error that isn't loading). If this happens then too, it could confuse users and seem like Firefox's error.
