I am subscribed to two mozilla.org mailing lists (mozilla-nspr@mozilla.org and mozilla-crypto@mozilla.org), which are supposed to mirror the corresponding netscape.public.mozilla.* newsgroups. Recently I found that most newsgroup postings are not mirrored on the mailing lists. It seems as if there were some (antispam?) mail filters that got overly aggressive.
Reassigning to default owner/qa on endico's open bugs so I don't have to watch her to get mail on them.

I believe dbaron is the one who's most likely to know what's going on with this (if it's even happening) since he's the one that's played the most with it recently. Any ideas, David? I do remember seeing the same a few months ago but I haven't seen it recently, perhaps something's already been fixed that cleared it up.
IIRC, this goes back to switching from whatever we used to use to mailman, and it's because mailman only lets through posts from subscribers (everything else gets stuck in the moderation queue, which nobody moderates). We had a nice global whitelist with the old setup, but endico switched it all when we switched to the new servers. I haven't tried to fix the "intended" flaws -- I was only poking at making the mail go through when it got completely stuck, and I really don't have time to do more. I think we should really look into new mailing list software. mailman is fragile and doesn't do what we want.
Actually, though, this bug predates that switch. But there are still problems today with real posts getting stuck in the mod queue for various reasons. (I'm actually not sure if these are posts originating via NNTP or via mail.)
Everything I've seen get stuck in the mod queue has come in via email. The newsgroup stuff tends to "just show up" on the mailing list. Seems to me like it was specific things getting stuck in the delivery queue (not the moderator queue) in mailman, and once your queue monitoring stuff started working, it kind of went away. As for new mailing list software, I should point out that we are using a really old version of MailMan (only because it's the one RedHat supports for RHEL). We really should get a current version of MailMan at a minimum. If we're looking to actually change, I wholeheartedly recommend Majordomo2. We use that at bugzilla.org and it's a list admin's dream come true. (unfortunately the web interface still seems to be a little on the confusing side for the end-users, though it is continuously improving in that regard).
wtc: do you still have problems with this at all? I'm pretty sure this went away with the move to mailman from slist. If that's not the case, please reopen.
