Preliminary investigation by chutten indicates that we're not actually seeing this in the field, and there must be some other explanation for the weird subsession hours we're seeing.

Indeed, the measurement dashboard doesn't show a single occurrence of the probe.
This databricks notebook also shows: not a single occurrence of the probe.
While the absence isn't a definitive indicator that the inconsistent case never happens, it's a good indication that it doesn't occur frequently enough to be a cause of bogus session length values.
(We still see bogus session lengths in newer data)
I'll close this bug, as analysis of this probe is finished.
I plan to raise this topic next Monday again.
