Bookmarks is an HTML text, so we need the thing that exists for a regular HTML text/page - "Edit / Find in this page", otherwise the Bookmark Search is _useless_: it shows me the found link in a _separate window_ instead of placing me into the needed part of my HUGE Bookmarks (as Netscape 4.79 did): at work for example, I am often asked to provide some information ASAP, say "What is the Character Set Encoding name for Vietnamiese?" I do remember that needed links are in the same part of my _huge_ Bookmarks file where UTF-8 related links are, so in Netscape 4.79 I do: - Ctrl/B to open Bookmarks window - Ctrl/F and type UTF Now I am in the _needed part of my list of links_ and - 3 lines below - the found one - I see desired link to Encoding names page! In Mozilla the above (again, needed very often) is *impossible* - Bookmarks Search will show me that UTF-8 related link in a separate window - it's NOT what I wanted, it's useless. Regular Web pages do have an option "Edit / Find in this page", so I guess it's VERY important to have such option in the Bookmars window, too - then a user will be able to find needed part of her/his large list of links. May be this one should be included into Bookmarks enhancements project mentioned in the bug 110313 (at the very bottom)
Instead of the simple "Edit / Find in this page" that looks only for the HTML text, it would be great to have in-page search as powerful as it was in Netscape 4.79 - "Edit / Find in Bookmarks" there (in a Bookmarks windows) allowed to search not just in the Name but also in URL (Location).
I agree. It's very annoying to not know where the search results are located in a huge bookmarks file with lotsa folders.
Two notes from Mozilla/Netscape Newsgroups: =============== Subject: Re: Bookmarks Date: Sat, 08 Jun 2002 16:51:27 -0700 From: Peter Trudelle <trudelle@netscape.com> I agree completely, the heavyweight search may be useful to some, but it should not replace the basic Find feature that finds things where they are. I hope to be able to overhaul this area in the next release. =============== and another one: snews://secnews.netscape.com/3CFFFB8D.8030009%40enter.net
More comments on this issue: http://obri.net/ns/home.html#020609c - This reference includes this statement among others: in 4.79, I could search for name, location and description ALL AT THE SAME TIME. This is a big time saver in locating bookmarks. In 4.79, I would bring up Bookmarks|Edit, hit ctrl-f and search for something that could be in name, location or description. It was fast and efficient. -
This might be a duplicate of bug 56418.
More accuratly, this bug is a duplicate of bug 95748.
The "Find" feature in Netscape 7's bookmarks is HORRIBLE!! Even when a bookmark is there, "Find" refuses to find it! When will we be able to search bookmarks like we did in 4.7, which worked GREAT?!! Please reply!! greenbunny_hophop@yahoo.com
Definitely a dupe. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 95748 ***
