Details

During OTR testing, I regularly saw a bug, where it's impossible to start a private conversation.

Using the chat client's functionality to request "start private", nothing else happens. If we have arrived in this state, it doesn't matter which side attempts to start it.

Actual behaviour:

  • click "start private conversation"
  • UI shows notice: "Attempting to start private conversation"
  • nothing else happens
  • if sending a message, the message is sent without encryption

Expected behavior:

  • click "start private conversation"
  • UI shows notice: "Attempting to start private conversation"
  • the handshake between both chat clients should succeed,
    and the UI should show "private conversation started"

Whenever I saw this state, it was necessary to restart Thunderbird.
