I wrote the referenced comment on HN. Turns out about:config "geo.provider.use_corelocation" = false as described in another comment(https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19433708) solved my problem. I spend about 5 hours googling about the issue and did not came across any solutions. I think that should be better documented, eg showing that "you gave this page access to your location but firefox did not get the permission the access your location by your operating system"
