Details
There are several issues with the New Tab and Home settings in our app settings menu:
- It is unclear to the user that there is a difference between New Tab and Home (they may change the "Home" setting and expect to see their change reflected when they open a new tab; anecdotally, this misunderstanding has been reported to me by at least 3 of our users)
- Even though "Firefox Home" can be set for the "New Tab" setting, you must go into the "Home" setting to make "Customize Firefox Home" changes (i.e., number of rows)
- If we consolidated "Home" and "New Tab" to be the same thing, we could hide the "Customize Firefox Home" settings unless "Firefox Home" was selected
- The "Firefox Home" setting in either context should have some sort of iconography or visual to help explain to the user what "Firefox Home" even is (i.e., a grayscale graphic showing the top sites icon layout or something)
- There is further confusion when considering the "China Edition", such as Bug 1528153

This is really for consideration for v17, but we do not have that set up in Bugzilla yet.
