What about a more current nightly build ? I have no problem with the June 29th
build.
Comment 2•23 years ago

hmmm. I installed 2002-07-01-05-trunk chimera and it crashed on launch. I went
back one build at a time and crashed on launch for each build. Finally, the
2002-06-28-05-trunk, launched fine. Then I reinstalled July 1 again and it
luanched fine.

Summary: Navigator Nightlie 062602 / 20:59 dies on launch → Navigator nightly 062602/20:59 crashes on launch

I only encountered this problem using 2002-07-01-05-trunk. My work around was
to delete the following directories/files:
"~Library/Chimera"
"~Library/Project X"
"~Library/Preferences/com.mozilla.navigator.plist"
After deleting those, Chimera loaded with no problems.

hrm, perhaps this would occur if the previous build was from 6/27 or earlier?
6/26 i could understand, but i'd think 6/27 would be fine since that's when the
file rewrite and profile fixes went in...unless of course there were more
changes that went in post-6/27-build...

Simon/Conrad: Does this have to do with the profile weirdness that we saw last
week?
Adding to blockers list.

This is the original reporter with an update: I just downloaded the 070102-
04:59:00 build and it died on launch, too. I haven't deleted my old preferences
/ bookmarks yet, just the org.mozilla.navigator.plist file (which didn't fix the
problem).
That sucks if I need to redo my prefs..
FWIW, I just updated from Chimera/20020625 to 20020701 and my prefs were wiped
clean, though I had no trouble starting up.
*** Bug 155310 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
It also crashs after the installation (branch build: 2002-07-02-05).
I'm not sure it's because of multiple profiles, but I currently have more
than 1 profile.

Original reporter: I wiped out my original preferences and profile folders and
it started clean.

In comment #9, are you sure you've got the right product? (Chimera)
> Simon/Conrad: Does this have to do with the profile weirdness that we saw last
week?
Probably so. Using a build after 6/28 should work, no matter which build was run
last. (Though reports say otherwise. I need to investigate, obviously) Using a
post-6/28 build and then going back to the 6/27 build will crash. Using a
post-6/28 build and going back further than 6/27 should work because, before
6/27, the registry and profile was in ~/.mozilla.

I want to correct on my comment #9, actually this is only one profile. Anyway, in
order to avoid the crash, go to Mac OSX > users (your name) > Library > Chimera
So throw away that folder "Chimeara" into trash, and then re-install it again,
it works. I will also attach the crash.log assuming if you don't throw away
'chimera'
folder into trash, the crash always exists everytime.

Patty Mac - If you still have a Chimera folder which causes a crash, can you
stuff the whole thing (minus the "Cache" dir) and attach it? I'm not getting
this crash and perhaps there's something in your registry that's causing it.

Now that profiles have moved to ~/Library/Application Support/Chimera, this bug
will only hit if a user manually moves the contents of their profile directory
around.

Should we close the bug then?
