How about we remove the HDD probes from probe dictionary until there's actually data on it?

Flags: needinfo?(shong)

Update:

De-prioritizing this to P2 due to bandwidth issues. Comment if this becomes time critical.

also: note to self, probably worth revisiting multi-threading / hyperthreads issue

:Daniel that's a good idea. I'd file that bug under Data Platform and Tools (not sure if there's a Probe Dictionary component, might have to file under general)

I think there's some confusion here. The HDD/SDD type probe was implemented by :sefeng, originally in bug 1533861; it adds a .type key to environment.system.hdd.{system, profile, binary} for Windows clients.

The new probes are actually missing from the probe dictionary; the environment probes are not defined in a nice declarative manner, so they are not scraped from mozilla-central like the other probes represented in the probe dictionary. Instead, there's a reference inside the probe-dictionary repo: https://github.com/mozilla/probe-dictionary/blob/master/environment.json

Data for the probes you see in the probe dictionary are all being collected; there is no reason to remove anything from the probe dictionary. This bug is about publishing data for the new .type probe at https://data.firefox.com/.

unassuming this from myself as I'll be on extended PTO / leave until Oct 13th.

if this is urgent, another Mozilla Data Science team member can pick this up. Otherwise, I'll re-assign myself when I get back and find bandwidth.

:sefeng made the initial request.

And I created the 2nd request, but can't find the bugreport anymore, strange.
