Visit the URL and move your mouse up and down the left menu. Watch Mozilla eat
90 - 100% CPU swapping images and still not succeed in swapping them all. This
is with Mozilla 1.0

This was being caused by the page having a background image. Remove the
background image and the performance hit is gone. WTH?
Further testing indicates that the problem is not within the JS itself, but
within the layout of the page. Changing component to layout. Sorry for the spam.

Jerry, can you still reproduce this?
I can't (Win2k), neither Boris...

Mozilla has reduced its CPU usage on that URL to about 60% or so (2003111616). I
don't know whether 60% CPU is an acceptable number for doing image rollovers.

Video card/driver specific issue?
Or only visible on older/slower computers?
Mine is an Athlon 2600+ with plenty of RAM and an nVidia Ti4200 card.
And I have to admit Taskmanager shows up to 40% CPU usage when moving the mouse
very fast - which might be a problem on slower computers.
BUT swapping images does not show any delay (looks instantaneously(?)), moving
the mouse at "reasonable" speed (across the whole menu within 1 second) only
leads to about 10% cpu usage.
And moving the mouse very fast on this bugzilla page also shows more than 30%
CPU, so I assume what you see on that specific page probably has a differnt
reason than just a slow computer in terms of MHz.
