The update doorhangers have buttons with accesskeys that collide with and override other interface keyboard shortcuts, which is very annoying given that the doorhangers can pop up at any time.
Most annoying is the download button on the “update available” doorhanger, with accesskey D. So I press Alt+D to go to the address bar, but no! the “update available” doorhanger just appeared, so I actually just invoked a probably-50MB download that I didn’t want at this time. (And since a year ago I can’t even disable the pesky thing, see bug 1478872.) This has happened to me dozens of times in the last year, and I’ve been really fed up with it once I finally figured out what was going on (the first quite a few times I didn’t realise what had happened, and thought that Firefox had simply decided to do the update without consulting me), but somehow never quite enough to file a bug about it until now. ☺
I suggest that the accesskeys on these doorhangers should probably just be removed.

Bram, can I get UX feedback on this? Thanks!

I didn’t realise that the “update available” doorhanger has an accesskey.
I agree with Chris that we should remove this conflicting accesskey.
Furthermore, we should check whether other doorhangers – Firefox has many – are also wired to the same accesskey. If so, then we should remove those conflicts, too.

The bug has a release status flag that shows some version of Firefox is affected, thus it will be considered confirmed.
