Brian, we should probably make a decision: do we get this in now for ease of future upgrades, or defer it as a 2.0 feature?

We're still thinking of doing this as part of a larger project to move credentials (like Azure, GCP, AWS in Auth) out of the deployment config and into API methods. But, we're not doing that yet, so for the moment let's call this INCOMPLETE.
