I filed a regression for bug 1390700 from that bug's "new/clone bug" menu's "that is regressed by this bug" option. 1390700 was type "task", and the New Bug form carried that over.
I'd half-heartedly argue that regressions are defects by nature, so it would probably make more sense to default all bugs created from the "that is regressed by" option to be type "defect" rather than inheriting the parent bug's type.

The same applies to enhancement bugs.
