As a user, I would like to find disabled and recommended add-ons and themes easier than having to scroll down a long page.
about:addons when you have more add-ons installed than fit comfortably on a single screen is cumbersome to use.
I think the UX could be improved by using a tabbed UI.
I'm thinking three tabs within "Extensions" and "Themes", where the three tabs would be:
- Enabled
- Disabled
- Recommended
This way, it would be very easy to find disabled add-ons/themes (right now, a user has to scroll until they see disabled text, especially since these items are no longer dimmed as they used to be).
Additionally, to maintain existing discoverability of recommendations, Firefox could default to "Recommended" when no add-ons are installed.
Firefox could also show some copy that says "you have no enabled add-ons, see your recommended add-ons" (which when clicked could switch to the correct tab). This could even be the case when add-ons are installed, like today, except that the recommendations themselves would appear in the tab.
Acceptance Criteria:
- Tabbed navigation
- calls to action using copy as last item in add-on and theme lists when at least one is enabled
- tabs should be inactive if no items are present
- default to recommended tab when no add-ons are enabled
- if add-ons are enabled, default to enabled add-ons
