Details
When using Mail to compose a new E-Mail and the certificate which will be used
to encrypt the message, Mail (I guess it's a problem of the library) takes a
lower-cased variant of the E-Mail-Address specified in the certificate which
causes that encryption will fail. When looking at the certificate manager, the
E-Mail-Address also appears lowercase, but if you look at details, it is shown
correctly. Mozilla Version is 1.0 (I couldn't select any version in Bugzilla,
shows always "other" there).

the case of email addresses in certificates is not relevant.
Although rfc 822 makes the local part of addresses case-sensitive, a study of
the market shows that in usage they are not.
We therefore compare emails addresses lower case.

Timo, what you see is bug 130692. The problem was not fixed in the Mozilla 1.0
release.
But it has meanwhile been fixed in the 1.0 branch. Please download and test a
build from the stable 1.0 branch:
