User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

Steps to reproduce:

With the recent upgrade of Firefox version to 68.0 (32/64 - bit), we are experiencing issues opening Skype meeting URL through firefox Note, it was working on previous version and multiple users are affected.

Actual results:

Scenario: I open Outlook calendar -> Select my meeting and click Join Skype meeting -> It then re-directs to Firefox(current default browser) -> opens up Skype meeting (conference page) and then throws the mentioned error. It's happening with 10-12 users who have recently updated FF version (68.0), not sure if downgrading the version will help, but FF needs to get this fixed in next release as our Org heavily depends on FF for other URL's

Expected results:

It should ideally join/take you through skype meeting

Note : it works with other browsers (chrome, safari, IE, edge)

Not a security bug that needs to be kept hidden.

The error message relates to lync.exe (as per the titlebar of the error message in the screenshot), which isn't Firefox, but looks like it's a part of "Skype for Business". It sounds like Skype is somehow broken. The explanation for the difference with other browsers may be to do with how Skype links open in Firefox - it may be worth checking if there's an entry for Skype for Business / Lync in the "Applications" section in Firefox's options/preferences, and if so, setting it back to "ask me every time", and/or seeing if there's a separate entry for Skype for Business in the list of apps that does work.

If you say so, not related with Firefox - just to let you know it was working with previous Firefox version. Only thing which was changed - Firefox upgraded to 68.0 version, no other applications(office, skype) were updated/modified/patched. I feel it has to do something with Firefox-skype integration. I tried downgrading Firefox on one of the affected system and guess what it works. So not sure, if you need to dig down the logs/reports to analyze it further. May need Microsoft involvement as well. No blogs specifies about the error, may be cause no open reported/faced it.

Let me know if you need anything in specific, would be happy to help to investigate further.

If you create a second profile on an affected machine ( https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles ), does the issue happen there, too?

Do you know how the interaction with skype works - ie do you get prompted on how to open a skype link or something? Or does it connect to a webserver or similar running on the local machine?

If you can reproduce on a clean second profile, can you try using mozregression ( https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ ) to find out exactly when between 67 and 68 this broke? (we changed literally 1000s of things, so just a 1-version range isn't super helpful, unfortunately)

Aaron, is this the same as bug 1567614?

Flags: needinfo?(aklotz)

Indeed it is. We are aware of the problem and are able to reproduce it. I'm waiting on some guidance from Microsoft to figure out the best way to move forward.
