Details

If you put in a plussed email address when you create a new news account the program starts creating all sorts of new accounts with escaped chars in the name when you try to select a subscribed group. ex: create new news group. put blah+foo@bar.org in the email address field. click on new news account, click on subscribe, subscribe to a newgroup, hit ok. click on newly subscribed newsgroup. The app will create another news account and ask if you wish to subscribe to the clicked upon newsgroup. will continue indefinately. Changing the email address in the news account does not fix problem.
