RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1269548

People

(Reporter: brad, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

Steps to reproduce:

  • Delete and recreate firefox sync account.
  • Delete $HOME/Library/Application Support/Firefox folder
  • Start firefox (so it is in fresh, default state)
  • In about:preferences, log browser in to Firefox Sync
  • Disable telemetry, change default search engine from Google to Duckduckgo
  • Confirm that sync has completed (about:config lastSync)
  • Quit Firefox
  • Delete $HOME/Library/Application Support/Firefox folder
  • Start Firefox
  • Log in to Firefox Sync
  • Wait for sync to complete

Actual results:

The "default search engine" is still on Google.
The telemetry settings are enabled.

Expected results:

My synced preference changes should have been applied:

  • The "default search engine" should have been restored to Duckduckgo.
  • The telemetry should have been disabled.

Other settings that do not restore from sync (similar to the two examples above):

  • my network proxy settings
  • my cookie "Manage Permissions" settings

Many preferences are being restored (so some sync functionality is working), for example:

  • bookmarks
  • browser.contentblocking.strategy

Notes:
MacOS 10.14.6
Firefox 68.0.2 (no extensions, virgin install)

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

Component: Untriaged → Sync

Thanks for the report - we are tracking the things we should sync but currently don't in bug 1269548, so I'll resolve this as a dupe of that.
