While searching the bug archives in order to decided whether or not I should enter a bug, I found several references to text wrapping problems. However, most of them were related to the mail composer, not the browser. There were some that mentioned problems with text wrapping inside table cells, but the defect would be overflowing text. What happens in the present case is that, depending on the width of the browser window, the wrapping of text misbehaves, with two possible outcomes: either content is overwritten or partially hidden. The URL provided (and the screenshots - if I can upload them) is just an example. I have seen it happening in other pages as well. One thing that I am not quite sure at this moment is whether the problem only happens with link text or not. I do not remember, but I have the impression it may happen to regular text as well. Also, replicating the problem is not very easy, though possible by playing with the window's size.
This screen shot shows the two words "interface design" on the same line. What we have to do to see the bug is gradually enlarge the browser's width, so that the word "interface" will be pulled to the previous line.
This is the worst manifestation of this bug: part of the content is not showing. The first word "interface" has disappeared!
Enlarging the window's width a little more made the missing word return, but the following word "design" seems to overwrite it, as if it were unaware of its presence.
Reporter: What buildid were you using? This sounds exactly like bug 148399, which was fixed 6/14/2002. If your build is older than that, please try downloading a newer build and see if the problem went away. This might not be the same bug, but looking at the comments in bug 148399 might be enlightening anyway. (There might be a bug specifically relating to URLs; check the most recent comments)
My build ID is 2002061104 and yes, this bug is probably the same as #148399, as you suggested. I am downloading the latest build and will check if the problem is gone.
I have just installed the build 2002071708 and the problem really seems to be gone. Great! Thank you, Mike Gebis, for the pointer. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 148399 ***
