Steps to reproduce:
Please consider hiding the Close tab button on background tabs until the user hovers over the tab with the cursor. It makes for a better experience and no downsides (cleaner, more focused UI, slightly more tab titles are visible too). We already hide some buttons until they are hovered, such as the "Show history" arrow in the URL bar, or the close button on new tab page snippets (I'm sure there are more examples of buttons we hide until hovered with cursor). Also, Safari for macOS and Edge hide the close tab button on background tabs until the user has hovered the cursor over them, so this isn't a new risky idea.
*Vivaldi also hides the Close tab button until the user hovers over the tab with the cursor
