Build: 07-17/18 branch build / linux RedHat 7.2/7.3 Steps: 1. Download Netscape installer. 2. login or set locale as Japanese(ja_JP.eucJP) or Chinese(zh_CH.GB2312). 3. Run instller. Result: When click "Next" after readme page, the license page is displayed blank. Note: With English locale (en_US or C) doesn't has this problem. This is a regression between 07-15 and 07-17.
Very bad for intl user - nominate as nsbeta1.

This is not Japanese localization of license file issue. Issue is that installer can't display the content of license file (english) on Japanse locale. We suspect it contains 'trade mark' symbol, or 'copy right' symbol. Did the license.txt change recently?
license.txt is changed by bug 15908 recently, and as suspected it introduced new symbolic chars. http://bugscape.netscape.com/showattachment.cgi?attach_id=7676 jag: can we revise the license.txt to remove these symbolic chars? reassign to jag

jag: can we revise the license.txt to remove these symbolic chars and replace them with ASCII chars (eg. (R), (TM), etc)
if this is a netscape commercial issue, should we resolve this bug as wontfix, and make the changes needed to resolve this issue in bugscape http://bugscape.netscape.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15908?
agree with comment #7.

Comment from http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58604 said that it works for RH6.1+ I am reopening 58604.
VERIFIED.

I'll turn this into a generic install bug, although there's probably not much we could do if it's a GTK problem.

Summary: License file is displayed blank in installer when locale as Japanese or Chinese → English license w/non-ascii char is empty on JA locale machine
Can someone attach the license text that we are trying to display when executing in Japanese locales?
Whiteboard: [adt1 rtm] [ETA Needed] → [adt1 rtm] [7/23]
So I've "fixed" the problem by replacing the R and TM symbols with (r) and (tm). Is this bug about fixing the installer code to work better with text files that have such symbols in them?
Attached image response to #14
To answer the comment #14: With Japanese and Chinese locale, this license file is dissplayed empty. As the descussion before, it might caused by the R and TM symbols in this attachment.

For those of us without access to Bugscape, can someone point me to where I can read the details of that bug so I can determine if I need to reopen this bug or not.
I'm reopening this bug as Bugscape is for Netscape bugs, not Mozilla bugs.
