I have a readonly form field and I wanted to test it by pressing backspace and my browser went back to the previous page. The form page is in a frameset in case it helps. Frame 1 <-- one page Frame 2 <-- one page with form Frame 3 <-- one page There are no sub framesets or subframes.

Please attach a testcase. I don't think this is a bug, but it would be nice to have a testcase so the behaviour can be seen easily.
btw, this happens even outside of frames, the original place I found this was in frames, thought that might be part of the problem, but it happens on single page also.

Summary: Pressing Backspace Readonly Form Field Sends You to your previous page → Pressing Backspace readonly form field sends you to your previous page
brade, can this be fixed in the same manner the "spacebar in textwidgets scrolls browser page" bug was?

a couple things here-- * I can't reproduce the backspace key going to previous page on my Mac builds * If you have a readonly form field, the editor doesn't do anything with the event. Perhaps we need to PreventDefault() in that check but I'm not so sure after pondering this for a while. It seems to me that the behavior that is described is what should be expected (but maybe I'm wrong on this?). I recommend resolving as INVALID
I see that pressing backspace is a new "feature" that bring you back a page, but my test had focus on a form field. If you load a page without changing the focus on the page like from a link and press backspace it will bring you back one page each time backspace is pressed. This was tested an a Windows based system.

Confirmed using Fx 1.0.7 build on WinXP and Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051104 Firefox/1.5 - Build ID: 2005110405 Focusing on read-only and pressing backspace will bring you back to previous page. I saw chatter in recent check-ins coming through with regards to "backspace" on different platforms, which prompted me to revisit this bug I had submitted (not sure if they were for branch or trunk though). Also not sure if they are related.

seen using bugzilla. don't recall if it was using FF or suite - both trunk, windows. IIRC I also lost the form data of the page it went back to. @#$^% crap

This still plaques the browser, the read-only fields as well as pressing backspace on a checkboxes and radio buttons. This has bitten me when doing AMO approvals several times over and on other sites. Is there any hope for this 4 year old bug...
