User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/77.0.3865.90 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Start firefox with the profile selector

Actual results:

Firefox starts after 6s. After examining the firefox start with procmon there seems to be a problem with a parent.lock file in the %temp% directory. This file only seems to exist during that short amount of time. I have attached the procmon log

Expected results:

Firefox does not have this unnecessary lag

Hi msilvoso,

Thanks for reporting this bug.

I tried to reproduce it using Firefox Release version 69.0.1 and Firefox Nightly 71.0a1 (2019-09-30) (64-bit) on Windows 10 with no luck. Could you also try to test it using the latest Firefox Nightly and tell us your results? You can download it from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/.

I think the logfile you attached will be useful for the devs to investigate, so as a starting point, I'll add a product and component. Feel free to change it if you consider there's a more appropriate one.

Regards,

Component: Untriaged → Startup and Profile System
Product: Firefox → Toolkit

From the log Firefox is failing to obtain a lock on the file, usually because some other process is holding it open. Do you have any other versions of Firefox running or any anti-virus software on your computer? Either of these could cause this.

Flags: needinfo?(msilvoso)

Hello,

  • No other versions of firefox
  • it happens on all my computers with differents anti-virus software, even if I deactivate the anti-virus
  • It also happens on the nightly build.

I do not know if I was clear enough with "profile selector" - it only happens when you start firefox with the -P argument -> firefox -P
Firefox starts normally when a default profile automatically loaded.

Best regards,

Manuel
