This looks like a focus-related bug if the new "zoom in" searchbar behavior introduced in Oct 3 nightly.
Process is:
- open two new tabs, see search focused in the second tab
- mouse click back to the first tab and, without clicking anything else, start typing.
Text goes into the searchbar, but it doesn't bulk up and I don't see awesomebar results. I'm on current Win10, current Nightly, can reproduce arbitrarily. (Apart from this, the new behavior looks nice!)

With the same STRs in current nightly, the new behavior is: after switching back to the previous tab,, the bar is laid out as usual, but as soon as I start typing, the awesomebar buffs up and I see the expected awesomebar results.
Looks fixed to me. Thanks, Dão.
