I don't see a "Read mode" in Firefox Preview (tested with version 2.1.0 (Gecko 70.0-20190930090044)). Can you confirm that you're using the Firefox Preview app?

FWIW, this works for me on desktop (tested Fx 70 beta on macOS, in private browsing) - admittedly there is some gunk in the article that we could clear up (login buttons and stuff) but the page is not blank and from a quick look, the main article content seems to be there.

The Read mode in Firefox Preview is available by dragging up the drawer from the bottom. I confirm that I'm using Firefox Preview 2.0.0 (build #12610151) 12.0.0, 9fecd17d3 70.0-20190909055931.

Thanks, I was able to reproduce it now. I'm ashamed I didn't know how to find it before.
Since this bug is not reproducible on desktop, the issue likely isn't related to the Readability library or ReaderMode.jsm but some customizations made by Firefox Preview. Firefox Preview bugs are tracked on github at https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues. Can you please file the issue there? Sorry I can't be of more help.

TBF, it might still be a reader mode bug if Fx Preview gets sent different input than desktop for this site, which also seems plausible...

... except if I request the desktop equivalent it also doesn't work in Firefox Preview (while it works on desktop).
I don't know how to connect to Firefox Preview and do debugging on the device, or how this feature works in Preview - it might not even use readability... Nick, who knows more about whether it makes sense to keep tracking this as a reader mode issue?

Sorry, cleared the wrong needinfo box. But nalexander currently doesn't accept needinfo requests.

OK, I tracked down some Firefox Preview folks on slack to sort this out. Reinout, I'm really sorry you've had the round-the-houses (kastje naar de muur...) of all the bugtrackers here, but it turns out that the reader mode implementation of Firefox Preview is kept in android-components (yep, bugtracker #4...), and there is an existing open issue on the approach Fx Preview takes right now and how that can break in some circumstances - https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/android-components/issues/2985 . :-(
We're hopeful that with some fixes to add-on support in Fx Preview we can improve the situation there. Between https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/android-components/issues/2985 and https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/6005 we think this is covered, and unlikely to be a readability library issue, so I'm gonna resolve this as "moved" as the fenix/android-components folks will hopefully pick this up from there.
