Update Fennec logos & icons to the new branding throughout the app

Jess Osorio says we should update all the Fennec logos and icons. It's too late to fix in Fennec 68.2 (October 22), but we could update the logos and icons in a Fennec 68.2.x dot release (in early November) or 68.3 (December 3).

Component: First Run → General

Summary: Update Fennec (Onboarding Screen, etc) to use new logo and icon → Update Fennec app icons and Onboarding Screen to use new logo

Please attach zip file with new assets to this bug.

Assignee: nobody → vlad.baicu

The attached zip file contains the "branding" directory from Fennec ESR 68. If I understand correctlky, this contains all the assets for Release, Beta and Nightly.

It is more extensive than just app icons though. I see that for example we also have a search widget preview that contains the logo. So this may be more work than initally anticipated.

Update Official Firefox Browser branding files.

Vlad, I am not the right person to review this patch for correctness. Can the SV team look at it and land on ESR?

The patch lgtm, however just to be sure I've submitted a try build with it so QA can verify if there are any other occurrences of the old logo on the release version. In try I've selected the release test options, hopefully it should enable them to download the "release" builds from there

Sorina, do you think you can sign off on these changes on Monday? Do you need any help to test this?

Update Official Branding

ESR Uplift Approval Request

  • If this is not a sec:{high, crit} bug, please state case for ESR consideration: We need to update the logos for Firefox for Android to match the new branding.

Since Fennec has been removed from mozilla central, this needs to land in ESR68 to ship.

  • User impact if declined: Users will see the old branding icons and logos, inconsistent with the other Firefox apps
  • Fix Landed on Version: uplift to ESR only
  • Risk to taking this patch: Low
  • Why is the change risky/not risky? (and alternatives if risky): QA has done testing to make sure the resources are correct, try runs, and manually verifying through the app.
  • String or UUID changes made by this patch: none
