[Affected versions]:

  • Firefox Nightly 71.0a1, Build ID: 20191017215425

[Affected Platforms]:

  • All Windows
  • All Mac
  • All Linux

[Prerequisites]:

  • Have the browser.ping-centre.log preference set to true.

[Steps to reproduce]:

  1. Open the Firefox Browser from the prerequisites and open the browser console.
  2. Navigate to the “about:newtab” page.
  3. Click on the “Context menu” button from the Sponsored Top Site.
  4. Click the “Our sponsors and your privacy” option.
  5. Click the “Done” button from the modal or press the "Esc" key.
  6. Observe the browser console.

[Expected result]:

  • A specific telemetry ping about the “Privacy” modal being dismissed should be displayed.

[Actual result]:

  • No telemetry pings are displayed.

[Notes]:

  • Telemetry pings regarding the dismissal of the modal are displayed when dismissing the “New Top Site” and “Add Search Engine” modals either by pressing the “Esc” key or by clicking the “Cancel” button.
  • Attached a screen recording with the issue.

Nan, is this something you can take a look at?

Flags: needinfo?(najiang)

I have confirmed with acupsa about this as the expected behavior. Because the dismissal engagement could be simply inferred by total # of show_privacy_info - total # of click_privacy_link.
