User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

Steps to reproduce:

I don't know, i was just browsing the internet as usual.

Actual results:

I was on reddit when i noticed that none of my extensions were working (i was seeing things that i blocked with ublock), when i clicked on their icons they would show something blank (see screenshots) or something odd, it probably happened even before i was on reddit but i didn't really paid attention

Here are some screenshots as i can attach only one file:
Tampermonkey https://i.imgur.com/xhpx7L4.png
NoScript https://i.imgur.com/460k7al.png
DarkReader https://i.imgur.com/hRJmsXU.png
Ublock origin: https://i.imgur.com/BPP1vyj.png

Expected results:

Extensions should have kept working as usual

Additional details i forgot to mention: When i tried to re block an element with Ublock origin (right click > block an element) nothing was happening at all.

I managed to get Ublock Origin working again by disabling then enabling it again, but i ended up restarting Firefox which made all the extensions working again.

I sometimes encounter this issue if WebExtensions process stop working.

Product: Firefox → WebExtensions

I have attempted reproducing your issue on all main versions without any success. The extensions would not crash or stop working simply by scrolling Reddit. I have to mention that the NoScript Security Suite extension affects Reddit severely. With default settings, this extension prevents Reddit from working altogether.

@klabsmaster, Yang:

  1. Do you have any idea what other actions you may have performed before you observed the extensions crash?
  2. In with browser version did it happen?
  3. Are you both using Windows 10?

Thank you for your contributions!

This is going to be difficult to replicate as this happens very rarely and i don't know a way to really replicate it.

I'm using NoScript in a way that i blacklist websites instead of white listing them, by default nothing is blocked except if i explicitly block elements.

  1. I have no idea, this happened a couple of time but i haven't noticed me doing something specific that triggers that bug.
  2. I've been encountering this issue since a long time, can't tell for sure but around Firefox 62 i guess.
  3. Yes i'm using Windows 10 indeed, version 1903 x64.

Perhaps as Yang mentioned, is there some kind of logs where we could see why the WebExtensions process crashed ? That could be the cause of the problem.

I will redirect this question of yours to the triage owner:
@Jim: "Perhaps as Yang mentioned, is there some kind of logs where we could see why the WebExtensions process crashed ? That could be the cause of the problem." Can you help us troubleshoot this issue? Is there a way to see logs of crashed addons after they crashed? How do you propose we should proceed about it?

  1. Sometimes due to insufficient memory, if Firefox being loaded many images, a lot of "page fault". Sometimes it seems to reproduce if I manually terminate the WebExtensions host process.
  2. It is a long period, not a specific version.
  3. Yes.

This will be handled by bug 1355239, or one of the related approaches we're investigating for this year.

Just FYI I'm also experiencing the same issue, so you're not alone. I've reported it in a comment under bug 1355239.

Even if this can't be fixed quickly, I would love to see at least a UI notification given to the user in the event of a crash. The user needs to know so they can restart their browser instead of unknowingly continuing to browse without their extensions.

Could this be changed back to a P1?
