From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.1a) Gecko/20020611 BuildID: 2002061104 You go to the page above, click Country info, Propose Country or State and... a special plugin by a company Ina-something loads in the end of the page to be used as a notes editor. This freezes mozilla. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Visit the page and click Country Info (lower left) 2. Click button Propose Country or State 3. Wait for plugins to load Actual Results: Note-taking plugin does not work and Mozilla sessions freeze. Expected Results: Load the plugin and on the bottom of the form give a nice notepad like form. It works ok from IE 6. N/A
With JRE 1.4.1 beta, the applet starts to load but then goes to 100% cpu. Mozilla is somewhat usable during this, but very sluggish. IE using the same JRE plugin goes to load the applet, but the applet then fails to load. -> OJI Here's the log from JRE 1.4.1 on IE: (1.4.1 on Mozilla shows no errors) Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.1 Using JRE version 1.4.1-beta Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM User home directory = C:\Documents and Settings\wdormann Proxy Configuration: No proxy ---------------------------------------------------- c: clear console window f: finalize objects on finalization queue g: garbage collect h: display this help message l: dump classloader list m: print memory usage o: trigger logging p: reload proxy configuration q: hide console r: reload policy configuration s: dump system properties t: dump thread list v: dump thread stack x: clear classloader cache 0-5: set trace level to <n> ---------------------------------------------------- java.util.zip.ZipException: ZIP file must have at least one entry at java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream.finish(Unknown Source) at java.util.zip.DeflaterOutputStream.close(Unknown Source) at java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream.close(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.cache.CachedJarLoader.decompress(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.cache.CachedJarLoader.access$500(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.cache.CachedJarLoader$5.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at sun.plugin.cache.Cache.privileged(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.cache.CachedJarLoader.download(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.cache.CachedJarLoader.load(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.cache.JarCache.get(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.net.protocol.jar.CachedJarURLConnection.connect(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.net.protocol.jar.CachedJarURLConnection.getJarFile(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.URLClassPath$JarLoader.getJarFile(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.URLClassPath$JarLoader.<init>(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.URLClassPath$3.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at sun.misc.URLClassPath.getLoader(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.URLClassPath.getLoader(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.URLClassPath.getResource(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadCode(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) load: class lotus.notes.apps.editorapplet.EditorApplet.class not found. java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: lotus.notes.apps.editorapplet.EditorApplet.class at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadCode(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Caused by: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed. at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.getBytes(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.access$100(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) ... 11 more

Summary: A plugin loads but freezes Mozilla. No Mozilla can be opened unless the old mozilla process is killed. → Java plugin loads and goes to 100% CPU usage
I'm seeing this too, with JRE 1.4.1 beta. 2002072204 nightly off the trunk.
This problem seemed to be related to lotus notes applet. The applet in the target page seemed to be a lotus notes applet. When running on Unix, I got the following java exception: "java.lang.NullPointerException at lotus.notes.apps.editorapplet.EditorApplet.init(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(AppletPanel.java:347) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:536)" It appeared that this lotus applet is not compatible with Sun's JRE. This lotus applet was not loaded in ns4.9 either. In IE6, when loading the lotus applet, a security warning window popped up to ask if you want to install this signed lotus applet. If yes, then the applet was installed. Re-assign to java group for further investigation.
