User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:70.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/70.0

Steps to reproduce:

Change the sorting of bookmarks to manual.
Add a lot of bookmarks. (more than 100 ~ 200 or more more...)
Sort manually. (never a function of bookmark list)

Actual results:

Sorting becomes impossible.
It will be inserted in a different location from where it was inserted.

Expected results:

It is inserted at the place where it was inserted.
( It will never be inserted above the next bookmark! )

In addition, if you verify in the Places database in about: support, it will temporarily be fixed.
However, the same phenomenon will occur again if the sort is repeated many times.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

Change the sorting of bookmarks to manual.

What does this mean? How are you doing it?

Is the bug that sorting is broken? Can you provide an example in form of screenshots before/after the fact with steps to reproduce the problem, or even better a short screencast showing the problem?

We must be able to reproduce the issue to investigate it, for that we need specific steps we can follow.

Thanks to reading.

To get this phenomenon happening, repeat the following.

Create and delete many folders...
Make or remove many separators
Create, move and delete many many many bookmarks

Then, it may behave strangely like the attached image.

In the attached image, I am trying to place "BBC News" placed above "ASCII.jp" under two "ASCII.jp".
But, if you do this, "BBC News" will be inserted between the two "ASCII.jp".

Of course, this is not normal and "BBC News" is inserted under the two "ASCII.jp".
Such a phenomenon occurs only when the manual sorting is not successful.

Sorry for not being able to express well.

This looks similar to a bug that we investigated a few months ago in bug 1540669 and bug 1557853.
Unfortunately it's really complicate to debug this problem, because it may require to bring the bookmarks into a specific state where this starts happening, and we don't know how to cause that state in a reliable way.
