Downloaded files for example "zasetup352.exe" (Zone Alarm) do not appear as a program, but maintain the ".exe" extension and and are listes as "bin" files. These downloads will therefore not execute! The same file downloads acceptably with Netscape 4.79.
Reporter: could you please read the Bug Writing Guidelines at http://www.mozilla.org/quality/bug-writing-guidelines.html to see the kinds of information we need in a bug report. Please report back with more information after reading those guidelines and consider using the Bugzilla Helper to report future bugs. In your case, we need the URL where you downloaded the said file ("zasetup352.exe") and the sequence of your actions (i.e. went to page http://a.b.com, clicked "download", clicked "save", etc.) The Helper can be found at http://www.mozilla.org/quality/help/bug-form.html Thanks for your help in testing Mozilla.

URL added. Problem seems to be that the download manager insists on saving the file as "zasetup3125.exe.bin" while Netscape correctly saves it as "zasetup3125.exe"
Reporter: This bug has been already reported and currently Mozilla team is working on it. As a quick workaround, you can manually erase the extra extension (".bin" in your case) off the file name using Windows Explorer. If you need further help with the issue, please feel free to email me personally. Thank you for prompt response! ==> Verified duplicate

This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 120327 which is classified as closed! This bug is not fixed as of Mozilla 1.21 for Windows or Moxilla 1.20 for Macintosh OS9. Download manager continues to append a ".bin" to the names of files being downloaded. Thus "mozilla-win32-1.2.1-installer.exe" becomes "mozilla-win32-1.2.1-installer.exe.bin". Although this is easily corrected before the file is saved to disk, or by renaming the file it is not how the system should work. The problem only occurs when the file is downloaded from "http://ftp.mozilla.org/..." which is the path from the Mozilla home page. Download manager states that "you have elected to download a file type: "binary executable" [application/octet-stream} from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/..." If one goes directly to the ftp location "ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/..." then the downloaded file is correctly named.

Oh well, I only meant that THIS kind of bug has been reported numerous times anyway. If it will make you feel better, have another dup, which is not FIXED yet. Hint: bug 120327 deals with problem "as a whole", and bug 144334 with some specific issues of it. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 144334 ***
