RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1283670

People

(Reporter: jonathan.kirszling, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/78.0.3904.97 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

I want to be able to use new kiosk mode (thx for that !) is a "app mode" way.
It's great to let us use webmails without heavy clients.
firefox --kiosk "https://webmail.domain.com"

Actual results:

  • It opens fullscreen. I use my wm to turn that fullscreen mode off, to just have a window with only page on screen.
  • Profiles problem when using side to non-kiosk firefox instance, i need to use -P -no-remote "kiosk_profile".
  • When i clic a link in a mail, it opens a new tab in kiosk mode.
  • No contextual menu, no possibility to clearly copy/paste from/to kiosk mode.

Expected results:

  • One should be able to run in a "non fullscreen" mode.
  • It would be great to make "kiosk" mode acts like a special instance with a dedicated "default_kiosk" default profile.
  • Kiosk mode should disable open tabs. What is the way to tell firefox to use firefox non-kiosk instance to open links if exists ?
  • One should be able to right clic in kiosk mode.

Kiosk mode is near an "app mode", why not giving a little more effort to make a "--app" args OR giving ability to completly tweak --kiosk behaviours.

Hi, are you trying the Modern Kiosk firefox add-on? (https://addons.mozilla.org/es/firefox/addon/modern-kiosk/?src=search)

Please notice that it is still under development, but it is suposed to not let a person do anything but browse the web and lock the rest of the computer down to prevent access to the running browser. (restricting the app to just one full-screen window)

I've already chosen a component for this bug in hope that someone with more expertise takes a look at it. We'll await their answer.

Best regards, Clara.

I don't get what you mean. My issue concerns improvment on new builtin kiosk mode, and you tell me to use an obsolete plugin ?
Strange :)

I'm talking about new "firefox --kiosk" not "Modern Kiosk firefox add-on"

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/71.0/releasenotes/
"Enterprise
New kiosk mode functionality, which allows maximum screen space for customer-facing displays"

Hi,

Thanks for clarifying! I've just updated the component and changed the status so that Firefox/Enterprise team takes a look.

Have a great day,

Clara

We are actively working on app mode:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1283670

I would suggest you keep an eye on that work.

I'm going to dupe this. We're building what you're looking for in that bug. We're not going to change kiosk mode to do that.
