Steps to reproduce:

  1. Press F12 on any page.
  2. (Release F12.)

Actual results:

After a short delay(*) Firefox (main process) starts doing some hard, CPU intense work and browser window ceases to respond user input. In the vast majority of cases the browser just closes (no crash dumps generated) after a minute. Rarely occurs, but if I click one hundred times on the X-button, the toolbox closes.

*: If I'm quick, I have a half second chance to close the toolbox, then everything works fine.

Expected results:

Toolbox works.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

I also have this issue, and can reproduce it under both wayland and x11 on Ubuntu 19:10.
Have tried mozregression going back as far as FF 70 and see the same, so suspect it's an interaction with something outside of Firefox.
