Details
I've developed a news sidebar, and many users are asking if it is possible to
open links from that sidebar in new tabs. I tell then to use ctrl-click, and
this works for most users.
But it would be really nice if this would be possible using target="_tab" or
maybe some javascript function.

Ok, the other bug got closed because of standards violation. Adding a javascript
function would not.
OpenTab can still be subject to don't allow open during load, so there's no spam
involved either.
Can I reopen the bug specifically for the javascript part?
Summary: RFE: make a target called "_tab" that will open the clicked link in a new tab → RFE: window.openTab() function or equivalent

If you are going to reopen anything, let it be 105409, even if only for the DOM
part; that's where the prior discussion of this rfe is, and that's where all the
interested people are cc'ed. Please don't reopen this bug.
