Currently the one-off searches in the address bar execute the search when you click them. We'd like to change the behavior so that clicking them adds the @keyword to the address bar and displays search engine specific search suggestions if available. This should be for the address bar only and not the search bar.

Verdi, how should this behave with search engines for which we don't know the @keyword? For example, if someone adds a search engine with OpenSearch (like one of the IMdB search engines here). We don't have an @keyword for any of those engines, but it still appears among the one-offs once added.

My feeling is that this might require update 2 work, but maybe there's a workaround.

mconnor and I just talked this through and we agree with you Harry - there's too much here and it's all better addressed in update 2.

It sounds like this was early design of what became search mode.
