This is mozilla 1.1 beta.

In the above URL, which is from Microsoft Knowledge Base,
the line that follows the first heading
"850 MHz or Faster Windows Me Computer May Hang During Boot"
is rendered in an unreadable manner.

The line is garbled and it
looks as if a few lines were printed on top the
other.
Using Ms Internet Explorer under win98se, I know that this
line is
"The information in this article applies to
 *DOT* Microsoft Windows Millenium Edition."

I only can read "The". The rest is garbled and it seems
to be the result of character overlaid on top of each other.

I also notice that
the horizontal bar seems to be overlaid
to the following line
"If this article does not describe your ...".

I know that this may be due to
MS' use of some IE-specific setup, but
I suspect that the font handling
in Mozilla may be screwed up a little in terms of
picking up metrics.

This is on linux with XFree86.

So it may be that the XFree86 font handling is messed up as well, but
I am not sure.

I run VMware on this PC, and have installed win98se inside the VMware
virtual PC. I have a mozilla 1.1 beta running inside this win98se image.
Using that version, I got the exactly same problem, so
the problem may not be related X windows per se.

My trying to use automatic character recognition for Japanese
may be a culiprit, too. But when I tried to change the
recognition between Japanese and Western, the problem still persisted.

So I think this rendering problem is inherent to the
mozilla 1.1b on both linux and win98se platform.
