Hi,

pardon my ignorance in terms of RTFM, but I am not used to Bugzilla and don't
want to break anything - can please somebody advise me how to mark bugs 181398,
184046 as redundant to this one? Enter them as "alias"?

Thanks,
David

This is serious! Export is not backup--backup is not export. We need to be able to export a certificate so that it can be transfered to another program. All I can find is "backup" which password-encrypts the certificate making it totally unusable, as the receiving programs can not decrypt it.

Thanks,

Lance Haverkamp

This would be a great feature to have.
I am a Java dev, with a Linux dev workstation, and have to go to IE to export a certificate!
It can be done, but it's an insane pain in the rear! I finally found enough pieces of information (mostly from Ubuntu & Gnupg.org) to post some instructions here:
http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/How_to_install_certificates_in_Kmail

The entire how-to is for moving SSL certificates from Firefox to Kmail, just stop when you've got what you need. This process still needs to be simplified a lot!

This will be useful to export Other People's certificate in Thunderbird. In Other People's there is neither a Backup button. I understand Backup has no meaning because other peoples key's are public and doesn't need encryption but, missing Backup, Export is needed urgently. Export will allow me to save public certificates of my contacts. So, when I reinstall for any reason, I can export and save them. I'll be not more needed to ask to every contact of mine to send me another signed (unencrypted) email to get her public key.

Fixing this bug will also allow anyone to see her private key simply by looking into the unencrypted (exported) certificate although I'd like to see my private key directly in Advanced options - Encryption - View certificates - Your certificates - View (obviously asking for a password).

And more: An "Export public certificate" button should be added in Your Certificate to extract my *.crt public certificate from a my *.p12 certificate. So I can distribute my public *.crt certificate to my friends or load it on my website.

Please let me know if these features can be considered when fixing this bug or if I need to open a new bug. Thanks.
FWIW, I've just attached an updated patch to bug 315871, which should also address the topic of this bug.
