This is needed to fix some of the unexplained compact woes we have been seeing but are not able to reproduce. The problem is that users don't know if compact is happening or not and do something else with the folder and that leads to mysterious bugs. So the modal progress will be just like the one for compose window on sending msgs.

bienvenu, clarkbw, this should be wontfix, given that bug 469050 is wanted and we're trying to reduce modal windows

yeah, and eventually get rid of the need for compaction entirely.
