User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020808
BuildID: 2002080808
My preferences are set to allow me to reply to messages above the original
message. Sometimes, if I have made a typing error and want to delete something
and replace it with something else, the blinking insertion point appears several
characters removed from where new typed characters appear, making it almost
impossible to do the editing.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set preferences to ‘Type reply above original message’.
2. Download a mail message.
3. Click ‘Reply’.
4. Start typing a reply, go back and highlight a part of your reply, delete and
try to type new text or otherwise edit.
Actual Results: The new typing appears at a different place than the the
insertion point.
Expected Results: The new typing should appear at the insertion point.

Michael, you should try configuring Mozilla to use different fonts. You may find the results vary.
May be a duplicate of bug 154131.

Thanks for that suggestion. But it looks to me as if this was a Build 2002080808
special. I have not had this problem again since I changed back to Build
2002080108. (Build 2002080808 has all sorts of major problems with its mail
component, including inredible slowness in displaying successive messages.)
More ramifications related to bug 161481?

Mac classic builds are "dead"
You could try a 1.3.1 OS classic build from here :
